Netflix has canceled another show after only one season. The streaming network has decided to not pick up Messiah for a second season, actor Wil Traval announced on Instagram."It's a very sad day today," he wrote. "I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no Season 2 of Messiah. I wanted to say to all the fans, thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different."The show follows a CIA agent played by Michelle Monaghan who is tracking down a man (Mehdi Dehbi) whose followers believe he is the second coming of Jesus. A source told The Hollywood Reporter that one of the reasons why Netflix decided to can the show after just one season was due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. The show is filmed in different locations around the world, and Netflix was reportedly uneasy about going forward with a second season given what's happening in the world right now.All of Netflix's in-production TV shows and movies are currently shut down due to the global pandemic, including Stranger Things Season 4 and The Witcher Season 2.Messiah is not the first Netflix show to get the axe after one season. Other "one-and-done" shows have included Spinning Out and Chambers.Messiah was produced by Mark Burnett, the legendary TV veteran who created Survivor and The Apprentice. Season 1 premiered in January.
